i grew like moss

when you left i grew like
moss-- between
the cracks in the sidewalk--
soft caress & handfuls of
cement--
when you left my body
went green--
i took the left side
of the tree-- a dense mat
of flowerless hips--
this body knew thick
thigh summer &
hands in pockets autumn
& that season between
winter & spring--
this body grew around itself--
made a song from the silence
you left in me--
when you left, this body
found the stream--
took the rocks in hand &
climbed the spine of a mountain--
this body is delicate & fierce--
this body turned over
the stones--
this body lays out--
kisses all over your skin--
this body is moss--
my roots are soft
& my body is green
